My process: what it’s like to work with me

Not sure what to expect when you hire a B2B copywriter?

No worries! Here’s a bit about how we’ll work together.

My approach is built for efficiency. By following clear steps, maintaining open and honest communication and starting with the right information up front, we keep things moving smoothly and ensure the best possible results from your content.

My goal is to deliver copy and content that’s spot on for you and your ideal customer, so I’ll work closely with your feedback, questions and ideas until we hit the mark.

But—just so you know—I’m also not one to hold back from offering suggestions from my creative experience that could add value.

It’s absolutely a two-way partnership.

Here’s what a typical client journey looks like:

1 - Getting started

To kick off any new project, we usually conduct a briefing session to talk about the project goals, scope and your initial ideas. This can be over a quick call, email, or even instant messaging—whatever works best for you.

This is the all-important discovery stage. To make the best use of our time, I ask that you jot down key background information about your business, audience and content goals before the session.

This gives me a great basis to ask questions. We can then fill out the briefing document with more specific details together, so nothing gets missed.

You’re welcome to use my pre-prepared briefing document template, or I’m more than happy to use your own.

Having a brief in writing gives us both a clear starting point, meaning fewer back-and-forth questions later and a faster path to the content you need.

2 - Proposal and pricing

After this, I’ll follow up with a brief summary email covering the timelines and deliverables we’ve discussed, including my quote.

This is where you can confirm you’re happy with everything, and let me know if you have any questions or adjustments.

3 - Content development

Once we’re on the same page, I’ll jump into creating a first draft, against the agreed-upon timeline for delivery.

For larger projects like ebooks or whitepapers, I’ll send an outline for you to approve first, which gives you the basic structure and key points. This is so we’re aligned on content direction before I get down to details, setting us up for fewer changes later on.

4 - Revisions and amends

When reviewing the first draft, please use tracked changes, stickies or highlighted notes to make comments explaining the requested changes.

Then I’ll take your feedback and get to work on a revised version, usually creating a new document so that we can easily track changes between versions. I include two rounds of revisions as part of my rate, so there’s plenty of room for tweaks to make sure everything’s perfect.

If we’re working with a designer, developer or printer, I’ll usually coordinate with them during this stage.

5 – Delivery and payment

Once you’re happy with the final version, I’ll give the content a last proofread and send it over ready for launch or publishing. I’ll also send you an invoice for the full payment.
